Learning all that it takes about buying and financing a new home can be a real challenge to a first time home owner like my favorite niece who is now tackling that issue. She has saved up for sometime now in order to have a decent down payment on the perfect house when she finds it, and after 6 months of searching the search is still on. I have to say that I’m surprised that it is taking such a long time what with all the good deals out there on homes since all of the foreclosures that have been taking place since the economy went to pieces so many years ago. I guess she is just being very cautious, making certain that the one she chooses will have everything that she needs and wants, along with an affordable price tag attached to it.

For someone her age, 23, she has good credit, which is a big plus, so she will be able to hopefully get a decent interest rate. There is a lot of good information out there for people like her that are new to the whole mortgage game and I know that she is doing her homework and using the Internet to her advantage. Wish there was something that I could do to help her other than telling her of homes that I see around town that have For Sale signs in front of them. But I’m sure when she finds what she is looking for that I will be one of the first ones that she calls for help moving in since I have a pick up truck.

We both have been talking about buying a few accent rugs for our place.  I think that carpets and rugs help to warm up a place; especially in the cooler months.  I especially like area rugs that can be moved around and changed out. I found a really nice rug that I’d like to buy on the online store of the Abingdon Rug Outlet Company.  The Abingdon Rug Outlet Company is a discount outlet store that sells major brands such as Karastan, Nourison, and Capel.

I was looking at their selection of rugs and found that I am drawn to their Transitional Accents styles of rugs.  I think that they look fresh and fun and would add just the right touch to our rooms!

I was reading in the newspaper that last week a local family had lost their home to a fire.  In the body of the news story it was mentioned that the family had no insurance on the house, and that the community was gathering around to try to raise money to help the family with future living expenses.  Unfortunately, I read stories like that all too frequently – people feel that they don’t have the money to pay for home insurance, and then they end up losing their homes to some disaster like a fire.  It’s a very sad state of affairs.  I’m concerned that it is going to happen more frequently as the economic mess we are in gets even worse.

Since my sister has a taste for the Orient in her decorating in and out of their house I have decided to purchase her a nice japanese rain chain for her to use outside by her patio. They have a very nice set up out back and they do a lot of entertaining so I do believe that she will be thrilled with the idea of a nice japanese rain chain as a present for her birthday next month.

These rain chains are becoming a popular item these past years and since we are most likely going to be experiencing a dreadfully hot and humid summer this year I think rain chains just might be a good idea. Check out this nice looking Fancy Koi 8 Foot Rain Chain that I’m thinking hard on ordering with my next paycheck for her.

With the high winds that we have been experiencing these past couple of days, it looks like there will be a need for a few new mailboxes to be purchased and installed. The last time we had high winds like this, which has been quite some time now, it wiped out 2/3 of the streets mailboxes, and these winds feel just about the same speed as back then. I’m glad that I took the time to run outside and grab some of the items that I’m sure would have blown away by now. The trash cans are all ready full, ready for pick up Monday morning, so they are staying put, so far at least.

The sale of whitehall mailboxes and other whitehall products went way up that year that our street got wiped up. Not only our street was affected mind you but all around the county got torn up pretty bad. It was a rude awakening to many home and business owners that really needed to pay attention to several things that were affected back then. And mailboxes are important, something that we take for granted but when messed with it can cause havoc in your life like you’ve known no other.
