What Color Is Your Web Hosting?
Filed under: Computers and/or Internet, Environment and/or Green, Friends and/or Family, technology; Tagged as: environment, green, nephew, web hostingComments OffMy favorite nephew is totally fascinated with fossils, gems, minerals, rocks and the like. He has a wonderful collection of these types of items that have now over flowed from in his room into the hallway and living room. They look good mind you, all set up in display cases, book shelves and all, and he is always looking for new ones to add to his ever growing collection. Last time I was up there he was telling me that he would like to build a web site, one that he can put pictures of his treasures, all labeled nicely and have it allow people to make comments if they so desire. I think it is a wonderful idea and have been urging him on each time I communicate with him over the phone, texting, Instant Messenger or emails.
He has been doing his homework, researching the different web hosting providers that are available out there. He has decided that he would like to go with a provider that has green hosting and found a site that offers reviews and web hosting rating. I’m so very glad to hear that he is taking this so seriously.
We all need to do our part in being as green as possible, so I’m thrilled that he took the time to look and find this information out. And I can’t wait to see how it puts his web site together, you can bet that when he does that I’ll be sharing it here with you all. It shouldn’t be too difficult for this bright young man, he is a good kid and pretty smart. At least he doesn’t have to worry about having a dedicated server or anything like that, just a small time web site that he can play around on until he gains the experience and knowledge to get him to the next level.

The Push To Be Green
Filed under: Computers and/or Internet, Environment and/or Green, Friends and/or Family, technology; Tagged as: environment, Internet, technology, web hostingComments OffI’m glad to hear that there is a major push for all kinds of ways to become “green” I understand that even some of the web hosting companies are doing their part in going green. That is a good thing since we all need to do what we can to help the situation that our one and only mother earth is now in.
I’m still learning so much about computers and am grateful that my kid brother knows so much about today’s computers and the World Wide Web, I’d be in deep trouble if not for him. He knows all about webhosting, colocation, dedicated servers and managed hosting issues that I know absolutely nothing about. I just wish he had more time to spend with me, but he is married with children and his time is precious as most people’s are these days.
So I’ll keep trudging along the best way that I can. With the good weather months coming up we are all going to be busier and busier each day.

High Winds
Filed under: Environment and/or Green, Home and Garden, technology; Tagged as: environment, home, mailboxes, neighbors, weatherComments OffWith the high winds that we have been experiencing these past couple of days, it looks like there will be a need for a few new mailboxes to be purchased and installed. The last time we had high winds like this, which has been quite some time now, it wiped out 2/3 of the streets mailboxes, and these winds feel just about the same speed as back then. I’m glad that I took the time to run outside and grab some of the items that I’m sure would have blown away by now. The trash cans are all ready full, ready for pick up Monday morning, so they are staying put, so far at least.
The sale of whitehall mailboxes and other whitehall products went way up that year that our street got wiped up. Not only our street was affected mind you but all around the county got torn up pretty bad. It was a rude awakening to many home and business owners that really needed to pay attention to several things that were affected back then. And mailboxes are important, something that we take for granted but when messed with it can cause havoc in your life like you’ve known no other.

Early Spring Equals Early Bugs and Spiders
Filed under: Computers and/or Internet, Environment and/or Green, Home and Garden, technology; Tagged as: bugs, environment, extreme weather, pest controlComments OffIt is starting to act like spring more and more around here although technically we should still be freezing and dealing with snow storms in the month of February. It has been the mildest winter in recorded history and I fear that we just might be in store with some type of wacky summer weather, exactly how I have no clue, but time certainly will tell.
Along with so many of the plants and flowers that have all ready started blooming, there has been an increase of bugs inside of the house recently. The spiders are the worst, may I can’t stand the thought of spiders roaming around the house day and night so I have gone ahead and went to http://www.pestcontrol.us and have scheduled a professional to come out to the house to help nip this in the bud, before I start losing sleep with the thought of a possible spider crawling in the bed with me at night. I just can’t handle that.

Greenwashing
Filed under: Business and Office, Computers and/or Internet, Education, Environment and/or Green, General Life, Money, News, shopping, technology; Tagged as: business, environment, greenwashing, informativeComments OffI was reading an article on the Time.com website about how a lot of companies are participating in what is termed “Greenwashing.” I had never heard of the term “Greenwashing” before, so I was curious and read the article. It seems that “Greenwashing” is the term used to describe the action of promoting a product or service claiming that it is better for the environment than it really is. The article included links to other articles that showed instances and examples of greenwashing by real companies. I found the article to be informative, and have bookmarked the links for future reference. It is disappointing to see how many companies are so shameless in their false promotions!
