The issue of finding the perfect web hosting can be time consuming. With so many options out there, I wouldn’t know where to start, so I’m grateful for my kid brother, who is the family computer whiz, and all of his knowledge and experience. He knows just about everything there is to know about computers and all that the Internet has to offer us these days. If I have any questions I know that I can turn to him and he will gladly take the time to explain or come over and take a look at things. Whether it’s a question about managed hosting or colocation or even dedicated servers, he’s got it all under control.
It used to be that each family really needed a doctor, a lawyer, a plumber and a handy man to be able to get by. These days we need to include a computer whiz in order to get by. Thanks little bro!

Wow
Filed under: Business and Office, Computers and/or Internet, Entertainment and Fun, General Life, Shopping, Software, Technology; No CommentsMy sister was telling me that her son was having a hard time finding time to play Aion anymore, now that he has started taking college courses along with working a full time job. So he found a website that he could use to Sell Aion Accounts. I’d never heard of such a thing before, so I went online to check it out for myself.
There really is a website that buys and sells developed video game characters! I could not believe my eyes when I saw how much money they charged to
Buy WoW Accounts! There is some serious money exchanging hands there! The Aion accounts were much lower in price. I don’t know that much about either of the games, but just learning that this kind of business even exists really surprised me! -

Leave it to the experts
Filed under: Business and Office, Computers and/or Internet, Education, Friends and/or Family, General Life, Software, Technology; No CommentsI don’t know why it is that so many bosses think that just because one knows how to turn on a computer and type a letter and read email that they are computer experts. Teri came home from work last night and told me that her boss wants to put her in charge of their entire computer system – including the Internet part. I was flabbergasted, as was Teri. She has never claimed to be an IT specialist! Just the terms “dedicated server hosting “, “managed hosting solutions” and “colocation services” give her that “deer in the headlights” look of frozen fear on her face!
I told Teri that the best thing she can do for her boss is to tell him that the company would be better off hiring a real expert instead of counting on her to figure out what they needed to do. It’s not as simple as bringing home a “Dummies” book and figuring it all out! I told her that they don’t need to hire someone full time to do that – they can contract out the work. I don’t know what is going to happen – Teri’s boss can be a stubborn old goat sometimes!

I’ve been thinking
Filed under: Business and Office, Computers and/or Internet, Friends and/or Family, General Life, Money, Shopping, Software, Technology; No CommentsTeri and I have been thinking about buying a new Custom Computer. Her brother Sean bought a new Custom Laptop last month and he can’t stop raving about happy he has been since he bought it. He’s been talking about how he only has the features that he needs and wants, no unwanted “junk” taking up valuable memory and space.
When you think about it, Custom Computers and Custom Laptops do seem to make a lot of sense. Why should people pay for a lot of pre-installed software that they have no intention of ever using? And why not be able to decide how many drives and what kind of peripheral equipment you want? You would not believe how many “free printers” I have (never even unpacked!) collected in my basement that came bundled with a package deal! Every time I hear about a great “deal” that includes a “free printer” I just groan! I’ve got enough free printers in my basement to last me at least a decade!

Back it up

Teri was so excited when her boss gave everyone in her office a new Blackberry for Christmas. I can’t say that I blame her for being excited, but I always suspect there is an ulterior motive for gifts like that! Maybe I’m just hyper-cynical, but I think that businesses are trying very hard to find ways to get more of their employee’s time without paying for it! And I think that a gift like this can be written off as a business expense. Oh well, I don’t want to ruin her fun; she’s very excited about having it in the first place! She’s been very busy entering all of her contacts into the contact list.I’ve advised Teri that she should go online and sign up for the free Blackberry Backup app that I found at the drive.com website. I think it’s a valuable tool to be able to use their free app to back up and restore your contact list. The service isn’t restricted to just Blackberrys; it can be used for the Iphone and the Android phone as well. With the amount of contacts I have on mine, I sure appreciate having an app like that – I’d go crazy if I lost all of my contacts! This app provides real peace of mind about averting that disaster!
