My view on the world, as seen from whatever vehicle I’m in!

I am so very proud of my parents who are on a mission to get more senior citizens on the Internet. There are still way too many of them that are intimidated by the whole World Wide Web idea and they really need to get over that and get educated so that they can take advantage of everything that it has to offer each and every one of us, besides email and photo viewing and sharing which is just about all that many senior citizens are able to. It is a great start but there is so much more to it that they could benefit from.

One thing comes to mind that would benefit so many folks is the medicare part d issue that is being talked about so much. There is a great website – medicareconsumerguide.com -  that they could turn to to get assistance and information about. Things like this are so very important and I wish my parents luck with their hard work in getting more seniors online, I’m so very proud of them, guess I can’t say that enough!

I run across so many places that are giving away perfectly good previously read books that I end up lugging back to the house and put with the numerous other books that I’ve collected through out the years that one day will get read. One of my favorite books to read are the Reader’s Digest hard back collections. The stories are just long enough, but not too long and are 99% of the time worth the time to read.

I just finished the first story in my copy of a 1991 “Today’s Best Non Fiction” collection entitled The Anchors: Brokaw, Jennings, Rather and the Evening News, by Robert Goldberg and Gerald Jay Goldberg. I really didn’t think that it would hold my interest but once again I gave it a chance and it finally caught my attention and I’m glad that I time the time to give it it’s just due.  I wish that they would do another up dated version, since this story was done in 1990 and today’s news programming has gone through a lot of changes in the past 2 decades or so and there is so much more to tell since 1990.

I took a bit of time today to look at some of the subjects that are being offered at some of the Online Schools that are filling up quickly these days with folks looking to further their education for various reasons. The main reason of course is the money aspect and with today’s economy in the toilet most of us are looking for ways to increase our money intake and getting a degree is a good way to go about that task.

I also found some useful links like the one for http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ which leads to a Free Application For Federal Student Aid which I would think would be getting a lot of hits these days since it takes money to make money and when you are lacking money it becomes a Catch 22 so to speak.

I found it interesting that there are online degree programs in aviation so I had to check a bit further into that because the thought of someone learning how to fly online just made me feel a bit uneasy. I mean what do they do, hook you up with a flight simulator that you can use on your personal computer and if you do all right on that badda boom badda bing you are now allowed to fly a real plan? I certainly would hope that isn’t the case! Come to find out that the course is really in aviation mechanics. Can’t tell you how much better I felt upon finding that explanation!

I’m hearing that we are going to be seeing lower gas prices here in the near future. Actually I have noticed that they have been dropping just a bit, saw a sign for $3.29 yesterday, something that we haven’t seen in a while. Word is that we might even see it drop down to the $2 mark. I won’t be holding my breathe and I’m sure that they will at least rise once more considering Labor Day is right around the corner and the price ALWAYS goes up right before a major government holiday.

I’m not surprised to read that the Pay TV industry has lost record number of subscribers. It took sometime, since so many of us totally enjoy their TV viewing, but the economy has finally taken it’s toll on our TV, I’m surprised it took this long, but I guess we were holding on as long as possible. Since so many folks have had to cut back on expenses and cancelling their TV is one way to save some much needed money. And with more folks having to share living quarters and only one subscription is needed per house, as well as the Internet offering TV and movies online the TV industry is finding itself in a heck of a pickle.

Some how I’m having a hard time feeling sorry for this industry that has been raking in the billions of dollars for so long.
