I was fascinated to read on the BBC news website’s science page a story about how pictures from a satellite show that the earth’s gravitational pull differs from spot to spot.  What that means is that there are some spots on earth where a person weighs more than on other spots!  I better not let Teri know about this map, she will want to move to where she weighs less!

When I got on the Internet this morning I was surprised to see in the news headlines that the parents of “the balloon boy” are being brought up on legal charges in relation to the drama that occurred when the entire country got wrapped up in the search and rescue mission of their son who was supposedly in a runaway balloon, when in fact he was safe at home hiding in their garage’s attic.

I had heard that this family was trying to get their own reality show on television. Well, it looks like now they’ve got one – just not a paid one! I wonder, though, if a few years down the road they end up with a paid one anyway! I hope not – this grandstanding effort should not be rewarded with good fortune!

On this special day, the anniversary of the twin towers bombing, I was surprised to notice as I was driving around how many businesses were flying their American flags at full staff.  Yes, there were a lot of businesses that were flying their flags at half-staff, but it seemed that just as many were flying at full staff.  I don’t remember hearing an official proclamation that flags were supposed to fly at half-staff, but the post offices and government buildings were definitely at half staff, so I’m guessing that the proper protocol for the day would be for half-staff.  I wondered if the the full staff businesses were simply ignorant or just plain arrogant in some way.  Were these people proclaiming their “gee, we’re Americans and can’t be taken down” or were they “gee, we don’t think that the victims of the terrorist attack deserve the respect of a half-staff flag?”  I guess I’ll never know!

After I was reading my email today, the computer automatically goes to a site where there are articles of interest.  I like “weird news” and an article caught my eye about a man who has been arrested for possessing child pornography on his computer.  He is trying to blame his cat!  He says that he would leave the computer unattended and when he would return he would find strange things downloaded!

My goodness gracious, if that happened to me, I think I would delete those “strange things” that the cat had downloaded!

    Play him off, keyboard cat!

Last night’s news really creeped out both Teri and me.  The news story was about a local man who was taking a nap on his sofa.  He was awakened by a noise and when he opened his eyes he saw a naked man in his living room, staring at him!  I’ll bet that guy will be buying some kind of Home Security system pretty soon!

It seems as if not a day goes by where we don’t hear on the news about local burglaries.  With people getting discouraged over the economy, and the job market, I am sure that the crime rate is going to be going up for quite a while!  I can imagine that the companies that sell Home Security Systems will be doing a pretty hefty business in the upcoming months!

If you find yourself in the market for a security system, I suggest that you take some time to research which will be the Best Home Security Surveillance System for you.  Make sure that it has the features that you need and want.  Shop around before signing any contracts – as always, buyer beware!
