My view on the world, as seen from whatever vehicle I’m in!

It is back to school for many of today’s students this week. We will be seeing the big yellow school buses on all the neighborhood roads each weekday morning and afternoon once again. Going back to school in August just doesn’t seem right. We never started school until the day after Labor Day for heaven’s sake. I hear that some schools started on August 2nd, isn’t that just crazy!

My favorite nephew will be graduating high school (at least we hope he will) this year and with the help of some college grants he just might be able to attend at least a half way decent university. Having the Internet certainly makes the task of college scholarships a much easier one to tackle, wish we had had the Internet back in my educational days. With websites such as schoolscholarships.org available even finding good quality minority scholarships shouldn’t be such a challenge.

I can’t believe that my nephew will be out on his own as soon as next summer. He is a good kid and will most likely go far given half a chance. Guess we will see how his senior year goes. I wish him luck!

I had never heard of having gold IRA or gold 401k accounts before Teri’s Uncle Steve told us that he had taken a hard look at his savings plans and had decided to perform a gold IRA transfer.

I always thought that if you invested in gold that you had to physically HAVE the gold in your house or in a safety deposit box! I’m not exactly sure how much trust I would put in a company that says that they will hold onto the gold for you! It just puts me in mind of a rascal that my brother used to work for back in the 1980s who sold the same piece of gold to several different clients, telling them that he would keep it safe for them in his office! These things worry me! I’d have to do a lot of investigating before doing something like that!

Teri has been trying to locate as many of her relatives as she can fine so that she can hold a huge family reunion next summer.  One of the things that she has found during this endeavor is how many people in her family don’t even own a computer!  They have no interest in learning anything about the Internet!  We were really shocked by this because just about everyone we know in our families use computers and the Internet – at least for email!

So I’ve been thinking about how many people there are in our society that just are not tech savvy enough to take full advantage of valuable financial tools such as Online Trading .  I wonder how many of “us” don’t even know how to open IRA Accounts or get involved in creating wealth through Stock Trading.  I hope that the public schools are teaching the children in high school the things that they are going to need to really get along in the not-so-distant technologically intensive society we are heading into!

As many of you can imagine, it has been “low tide” for Wilmington NC real estate, as well as around the entire country.  So many people are struggling to pay their bills and are so uncertain about their futures that many of them are not even thinking about buying a house right now!  And sadly, many homeowners are finding themselves under water with their houses; owing more money on their mortgage than what the house is worth.

For those consumer that actually have some money, though, this is a good time to invest in Wilmington NC real estate.  Bargains can be found!  It truly is a buyer’s market, and it has never been a better time to buy!  What saddens me, though, is how many of my own personal friends and family are struggling so hard and are not able to take advantage of the great bargains out there.

Over the past several months Teri and I have been discussing purchasing more life insurance.  This was inspired by the unexpected passing of one of Teri’s friend’s who left his family completely without any kind of financial security.  He kept saying that he didn’t need insurance because he was never going to die!  Well, he didn’t look like an ostrich, but he sure was acting like one!

One of the things that have worried us is how, in this economy, can one justify spending the money on something like that?  Well, Teri says, how can we NOT justify spending the money on it?  She thinks that we should be looking at term insurance, not whole life.  She was using an online life insurance needs estimator to get online term insurance quotes for the both of us.

The whole concept of term insurance is that it pays if you pass away during the “productive” years of your life, when your family needs your income the most.  Since it is only for a short period of time, say for ten or twenty years, the premiums stay low.  With whole life, the payoff happens no matter what your age, no matter how productive you were.  Although it is nice to think of leaving a lot of money for your loved ones, hopefully if you die of old age, your loved ones shouldn’t need a lot of money because hopefully they are self-sufficient at that point.  I told Teri to try and find some Online affordable term life insurance and we’ll take a look at it, and see if we can fit it into our budget.  I think it’s a good idea.
