I run across so many places that are giving away perfectly good previously read books that I end up lugging back to the house and put with the numerous other books that I’ve collected through out the years that one day will get read. One of my favorite books to read are the Reader’s Digest hard back collections. The stories are just long enough, but not too long and are 99% of the time worth the time to read.
I just finished the first story in my copy of a 1991 “Today’s Best Non Fiction” collection entitled The Anchors: Brokaw, Jennings, Rather and the Evening News, by Robert Goldberg and Gerald Jay Goldberg. I really didn’t think that it would hold my interest but once again I gave it a chance and it finally caught my attention and I’m glad that I time the time to give it it’s just due. I wish that they would do another up dated version, since this story was done in 1990 and today’s news programming has gone through a lot of changes in the past 2 decades or so and there is so much more to tell since 1990.

A pretty interesting idea that the local high school came up with, putting those commercial hand dryers in the gym’s locker rooms for the kids, male and female, to use to dry their hair before returning to their other classes. I would have never thought that they could use those electric hand dryers for anything else other than to dry hands after washing them, which is the best way to dry your hands and a great way to reduce the waste and the mess that seems to always happen when paper towels are the only option.
It’s too bad that they didn’t think of using those powerful restroom hand dryers for us to use back when we were in school, I’m sure that the female population of the school would have greatly appreciated them since a lot of them had gym in the beginning of the day and then had to walk around for the rest of the day with a wet head. And if you had gym for the last period in the winter it meant that you had to go outside to get on the bus or to walk home and I’m sure plenty of colds were blamed on that.

It’s amazing and a bit overwhelming to see how many varieties are now available on the grocery shelves of the Hamburger Helper that we all grew up on (at least most of us did at one time or another) Back then there was probably 4 or 5 types to choose from, but now there most be at least 20 or more. Besides having Hamburger Helper, you can now find Tuna Helper and Chicken Helper as well.
I’ve got to admit that most of them are pretty good. Not something that I’d want to eat every day, but then I can’t think of anything that I’d want to each every day. You can’t beat the price, when they go on sale for $1 a box I stock up and make out like a bandit.

It Takes Money To Make Money
Filed under: Business and Office, Computers and/or Internet, Education, Investing, Money, Politics, Sports, technology, Travel;Comments OffI took a bit of time today to look at some of the subjects that are being offered at some of the Online Schools that are filling up quickly these days with folks looking to further their education for various reasons. The main reason of course is the money aspect and with today’s economy in the toilet most of us are looking for ways to increase our money intake and getting a degree is a good way to go about that task.
I also found some useful links like the one for http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ which leads to a Free Application For Federal Student Aid which I would think would be getting a lot of hits these days since it takes money to make money and when you are lacking money it becomes a Catch 22 so to speak.
I found it interesting that there are online degree programs in aviation so I had to check a bit further into that because the thought of someone learning how to fly online just made me feel a bit uneasy. I mean what do they do, hook you up with a flight simulator that you can use on your personal computer and if you do all right on that badda boom badda bing you are now allowed to fly a real plan? I certainly would hope that isn’t the case! Come to find out that the course is really in aviation mechanics. Can’t tell you how much better I felt upon finding that explanation!

There is a lot of home and property improvement going on all over the neighborhood. With all the extreme heat that keeps coming at us all summer long there isn’t much going on during the middle of the day when it is at it’s hottest, but boy oh boy first thing in the morning and each afternoon the place is really buzzing with all kinds of work and activity going on all around us. Not complaining about the noise mind you, I’ve been doing the same thing after making myself sick from the extreme heat it just isn’t worth it.
