Friends have been telling me about a new show that comes on Monday nights called, “Harry’s Law.” The show is about a lawyer setting up her practice in the ghetto of a city in Ohio somewhere – I don’t they ever really say where it is supposed to be.

The problem with Monday nights is that I like to watch the Hawaii Five-O show on CBS that comes on the same time as Harry’s Law. But tonight it was a rerun on Hawaii Five-O, so I decided to watch the new show on NBC.

I have to say, this is a very good show. Kathy Bates is a great actress and does a great job with the main character, Harriet aka Harry. The writers are very clever and understand the irony of our legal system and its many failings. They tell a good story and you really feel empathy for the characters. It’s a keeper!

This week we are starting a new inventory control system at work. Management has decided that we need to put Custom Labels imprinted with the company name and a unique identifying number on everything that the company owns.

The lady from Purchasing came around and handed out a printed list of company equipment and furniture that is in each office or work station and gave the list with a Custom Label for each item to the supervisors. I think it is going to take a few days to hunt down all the equipment on the list – it even includes the laptops that were issued to the supervisors and sales people, and some of them don’t even come into the office but once a week.

At least in my department i don’t have to worry about counting merchandise on shelves or a stock room. I used to have to help my dad take inventory on his plumbing truck of all the parts he used to repair and maintain his customer’s plumbing and heating equipment. It would take the two of us an entire day to unload the service truck, sort it out, count it, and then put it all back on the truck.

Man, that was a lot of work and I hated doing that every year. But i didn’t mind helping my dad – he didn’t ask us kids for much and this was one thing we could do together and I know he appreciated me being there to help.

Although I don’t like to write about politics on my blog, I do want to say that we live in interesting times. Many states are just getting geared up to pass legislation that the new representatives and senators had on the agendas when they campaigned for office.

I know a lot of people are shocked and dismayed to learn that the new Republican majority in Wisconsin are working to reduce the pay and benefits of teachers. Just when we have all agreed that America’s education system needs an overhaul and lots of improvement, the state are getting teacher pay. That makes no sense at all.

There have been daily protests and marches in state capitals over proposed cuts in education budgets and now they are concerned about the Republicans targeting unions in other industries, such as the police and firemen. This concerns me greatly and although I rarely write letters or call my elected representatives, I think i will have to make my voice heard on this issue and I urge you to do the same, even if your viewpoint may be different from mine.
