My uncle Mike has been looking to buy a white dinner jacket for several weeks now. Last weekend he spent hours driving from one store to another, looking to buy one. He found a place that would rent him one, but no one seemed to be selling them. He needs it to go to a formal dinner party over the July 4th weekend at he Elks National Convention in Orlando.

He was telling me how frustrated he was with the search process, so I offered to help him look. Within three minutes I found exactly what he wanted on the Internet (at a good price!)  and ordered it for him. He should have it in three days. I’m all for supporting local businesses, but when you just can’t find what you need, then the Internet is a great resource!

I had never heard of the jk adams company before Teri and I went to Stan’s housewarming party last weekend.  Stan had been building a new house, bit by for over a year.  He’s a carpenter by trade, and he built much of the house on his own.  I have to say that his skills are most impressive!  Of course, when you are building something for your own family you are going to go the extra distance to make things nice, aren’t you?

As part of the kitchen tour of his new house, he was showing us his new jk adams wine rack and jk adams pot rack that he his parents had given him.  He was telling us that he could have made them himself, but he didn’t want to upset his parents, so they are in a prominent place of honor in his kitchen.  Teri fell in love with the new appliances in the kitchen, and now she is begging me for a new Jenn-Air propane range for our kitchen.  Thanks a lot, Stan!

It was only a few weeks ago that I found “Captain Disillusion” on YouTube. I think his debunking videos are wonderful! I especially like this one, where he debunks the “Man on Mars” story!

When I’m around my brother-in-law I start to get the impression that we were born on different planets. I like having a computer, and I enjoy having the Internet to shop, check my email, pay my bills, and blog. But I like things simple. And this poor ol’ brain just doesn’t have the energy to learn geek-speak.

So when I’m hanging out with Will, and he starts talking about how he is the IT expert for several of the local businesses and then starts talking about their issues and what he does for them, my eyes start to glaze over. When he starts talking about dedicated server hosting, or managed hosting solutions, or colocation services, he may as well be speaking Greek! I know that these things are very important to many businesses, and I’m glad that Will knows what he is doing, but I’m just as happy letting those kinds of Internet and computer things be taken care of by someone else while I’m off riding my Harley or my John Deere!

One of the things that always worry me when I see someone burning brush, or thatch on their lawn, is the possibility that there may be poison ivy in the fire.  Once that poison ivy gets into the smoke, it could get into some-one’s lungs.  I cannot even imagine how doctors would be able to treat something like that!  Every time I drive past an open fire outdoors, I always wonder if there is anything toxic in that smoke.
