Do you remember the gold rush of the 1980′s? So many people were taking their precious metals to brokers and selling them for their melt-down value. My sister’s hubby used to work for a company that bought and sold coins and stamps. During that period of time they were very busy buying silver and gold from the customers that wanted to make a quick buck by turning in their precious metal jewelry and home accessories.
My sister’s hubby would frequently come home from work with a pretty gold chain or bracelet to give her. He said that he bought it from the shop at the melt-down value but it was so pretty he thought she would like it. I can remember her showing me a very pretty gold bracelet that had dozens of opals in it. It was very ornate; I can’t imagine anyone wanting to get rid of that! She told me that she gave her hubby her gold class ring from high school to sell to the broker. She never wore it anyway, so she figured that she might as well get some money back out of it!

Mangy dog
Filed under: General Life, Health;Comments OffOne of the neighbors down the street from us is a town police officer. He owns a couple of dogs that he lets run throughout the neighborhood, completely ignoring the leash laws. I really wouldn’t mind that very much because normally his dogs are very friendly. Having said that yesterday I looked out the living room window and saw one of his dogs in our yard running around (no big deal normally) and noticed that the dog appeared to be suffering from an advanced case of mange!
I can’t understand why someone who supposedly cares about their pets would allow their dog to have mange to this degree. Mange is treatable. People can get itchy rashes from being around dogs with mange. I tried calling his house to talk to him but only got his answering machine. I left a message for him to call me back, but I don’t expect he will. I’ve called his house in the past and left messages for him to call me back and he never does. If I see his dog running around my yard again today I think that I will call the animal control department. I hate to turn in a neighbor for ignoring the leash law, but there is no excuse to neglect your pet like that.

Teri has been planning our next vacation to a Myrtle Beach Resort for several weeks now. She has been checking out every single Resort in Myrtle Beach she can find. She’s been talking about staying in an Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotel instead of one further inland. She wants to be able to just walk right out the building and straight onto the sand without having to lug anything with her besides her towel and sunscreen. That way when she decides she wants to go in for a short while it isn’t a big hassle to go back and forth.
I’d like to go see a few of the big shows in the area, and maybe even take in a round of golf or two. But I think that mostly I’ll just enjoy sitting under an umbrella in a lounge chair on the beach, watching the ocean’s surf and just unwinding. One thing is for sure, we will enjoy being out of the cold weather and enjoy the warm sunny days at the beach.

Storm is rapidly approaching
Filed under: General Life;Comments OffThe weather channel is warning us that a big storm is approaching. The forecast is for “double digit” snowfall, starting Friday night and basically going through most of the weekend. That sure puts a damper on our plans to go out Christmas shopping Saturday! I imagine that the retailers are not going to be happy this weekend – I can’t imagine many people will be going out shopping in this kind of storm. The weatherman says we can expect snow thunder, too! That is really spooky – the hear thunder when it is snowing. I’ve only heard that a few times in my life. I wonder if anyone has ever been struck by snow lightning!

I have never been well known for being the most patient person. I hate waiting. Plain and simple. It’s not that I can’t wait – it just seems like such a huge waste of time! And in this day and age we all know that time is money! So when I am held hostage somewhere, waiting for something, I really appreciate it when the area I am waiting in has Commercial Direct TV. More and more it seems that every kind of business is making good use of Direct TV for Business to keep their customers calm and happy.
Just in the past year I’ve seen Direct TV Business in the waiting room at the hospital’s emergency room. You can’t even imagine how glad I was to see that! I ended up there unexpectedly with nothing to read or do while waiting for hours on end to be called into the inner sanctum of the hospital. I think I would have gone crazy if they had not used the
Directv Business sevice to keep us busy watching the show. The hospital even had a separate area for the children to watch children’s programming. I thought that was really smart; especially since I had no interest in watching the cartoons at that particular moment.
