Do you remember the gold rush of the 1980′s? So many people were taking their precious metals to brokers and selling them for their melt-down value. My sister’s hubby used to work for a company that bought and sold coins and stamps. During that period of time they were very busy buying silver and gold from the customers that wanted to make a quick buck by turning in their precious metal jewelry and home accessories.
My sister’s hubby would frequently come home from work with a pretty gold chain or bracelet to give her. He said that he bought it from the shop at the melt-down value but it was so pretty he thought she would like it. I can remember her showing me a very pretty gold bracelet that had dozens of opals in it. It was very ornate; I can’t imagine anyone wanting to get rid of that! She told me that she gave her hubby her gold class ring from high school to sell to the broker. She never wore it anyway, so she figured that she might as well get some money back out of it!

Mangy dog
Filed under: General Life, Health;Comments OffOne of the neighbors down the street from us is a town police officer. He owns a couple of dogs that he lets run throughout the neighborhood, completely ignoring the leash laws. I really wouldn’t mind that very much because normally his dogs are very friendly. Having said that yesterday I looked out the living room window and saw one of his dogs in our yard running around (no big deal normally) and noticed that the dog appeared to be suffering from an advanced case of mange!
I can’t understand why someone who supposedly cares about their pets would allow their dog to have mange to this degree. Mange is treatable. People can get itchy rashes from being around dogs with mange. I tried calling his house to talk to him but only got his answering machine. I left a message for him to call me back, but I don’t expect he will. I’ve called his house in the past and left messages for him to call me back and he never does. If I see his dog running around my yard again today I think that I will call the animal control department. I hate to turn in a neighbor for ignoring the leash law, but there is no excuse to neglect your pet like that.
