    Low flow toilets save water

I’ve been hearing a lot about low flow toilets over the past several years.  They’ve been hyped as a great way to conserve water.  My own experience with them, however, has been rather disappointing.  Everyone I’ve ever used I’ve had to flush twice or even three times just to get the bathroom tissue to flush!  So I really have to wonder how much water they conserve, if you have to flush them more than once.

Recently I’ve been hearing about a dual flush toilet system that is supposed to enhance the performance of the toilet while conserving water.  I have to admit that the idea intrigues me; can a toilet save water and still flush appropriately so that you don’t have to flush it more than once to get the job done?  I’ve been reading the Select A Flush webiste about the dual flush retofit kit which you can buy and install in an existing toilet.  I think that’s good – you don’t have to buy a new toilet!  But I’d really like to try it out somewhere before buying it.  I just don’t have a lot of confidence in low flow toilets doing the job.
