I was just reading an article on Time.com about how some states that have Blue laws against sales of alcohol on Sundays are considering lifting those bans, thinking that it will encourage more people to shop and spend money on Sunday, which will increase revenue and profits for businesses. I understand that there are a lot of people “opposed” to the idea simply because they think that the sale of alcohol is a bad thing, period.
Personally I think that Blue Laws are rather silly – people that want to buy alcohol will buy it when they can. Perhaps repealing the Blue Laws against the sale of alcohol will help to spread out the influx of weekend shoppers so that there will be fewer people shopping on Monday through Saturday, but I don’t really think that people will spend MORE; they will just shop at a different time.
