My grandmother suffered from dementia for about ten years before she passed away. She was a dear soul, and well loved by the entire family. It was very difficult to see her mental abilities fading. Most of us only had a vague idea of what dementia is.  We thought it was all Alzheimers, but our aunt told us that it wasn’t Alzheimers.  Understanding dementia was not our strong point!  We would go visit her as often as we could, but it was sad that every time we went to see her we had to tell her who we were. Ten minutes later we had to tell her who we were again. And again. Yet she had really great memories of her childhood!  From what we’ve been told, those are classic dementia symptoms.

So we learned that they best way to have a good visit with grandma was to simply keep asking her to tell us about her childhood. That kept her happily talking, and kept us from being frustrated by trying to remind her constantly of who we were.  I don’t think that our aunt really took grandma to participate in any kind of dementia treatment.  I don’t know if it was a money issue or not, but I assume that was the case because they were very poor.

I have a nephew that is going to Princeton University in New Jersey. (Yeah, we brag about him because he is the first in our family to go to an Ivy League school!) GO “J”!

One of the coolest things about going to an Ivy League school is all of the social connections that you can make without even trying, just pursuing your own interests, you bump into highly-connected people.

Well, that seems to be happening to our nephew “J.” He has been meeting some pretty wealthy and powerful people that are trying to entice him to come work for them during the summer break on internships, and then perhaps work for them when he graduates.

One of the most promising offers involves him living in Manhattan. Now that is very exciting to him, because he has grown up in a rural area and is just “chomping at the bit” to taste the “big city life.” So, he will be checking out that for sure.

One of the things I’ve always been concerned about with Stock Trading is not knowing how fast the trade will actually happen.  There have been times when I’ve ordered stocks to be sold through one company’s direct stock investment plans that I belong to and found out that the stock wasn’t actually sold for three days!  And by the time the stock was sold, it had lost quite a bit of value from the time when I ordered it to be sold!

Needless to say, that was very upsetting!  So I’ve been looking around at Online Trading options, to see if I can do business with an Online Broker that charges reasonable fees for their services and has really quick turnaround.  I think I have found such a company with the firstrade.com website.  They have a 3 second execution guarantee!  Can’t get much faster than that!  And they offer $6.95 stock trades.  That certainly seems reasonable enough!  If you are trying to find a broker that is fast AND reasonably priced, why don’t you check them out too!

I buy about three boxes of Multi-grain Cheerios every week. That is what I usually eat for breakfast in the morning. A few years ago my doctor told me that I needed to change my diet, and gave me a list of food that I should eat, and not eat. The problem that I had with that was that I was already eating the healthy diet!

So, in an effort to eat MORE healthy, I started looking for a healthier breakfast cereal. For a while I ate Total, but I really didn’t like it. Then I stumbled on the Multi-Grain Cheerios, and saw that it has just about the same nutritional value as Total, so I switched to it. It tastes much much better, so I eat that every day now.
