With the economy so tight, the consumers need to take special care to consider whether they are getting the best value for their money.  We also need to try to focus on buying American made products – we need to be looking out for our own!  The next job you save might be your own!  So from now on I’m making a point to try to buy American made products whenever I can.

The brigadeqm.com website specializes in quality products designed for the outdoor sports enthusiast, as well as law enforcement and military personnel.  Their Spec Ops Brand products are high quality products that range from clothing accessories to field gear to writing gear that are made in the USA.  I’d like to encourage you to check them out the next time you are in the market for outdoor gear.

Monday I met a lady from Tasmania!  I thought she was from the UK, I thought she had a British accent.  But no, she is from Tasmania!  She moved here recently, at her company’s expense, to promote their business.  What business?  Truffles!

I asked her “do you mean the candy, or the fungus?”  She said “the fungus!”  She is here to convince local farmers to grow truffles!  She said that she is inoculating oak tree seedlings so that they will grow truffles on their roots.  They use dogs (not pigs anymore) to sniff them out.  Their plan is to convince local farmers to buy the seedlings, grow the truffles, and her company will buy the truffles from the farmers!  Truffles sell for $800 per pound!  She said her company will help the farmers every step of the way, from testing and amending the soil, to providing the seedlings, answer every question.

She said it would only take four years from the time they plant the trees to the first harvest.  I don’t know how many pounds of truffles (or ounces) you can expect to harvest from each tree.

I found that fascinating!  I’m sure I’ll be seeing her again, I’m going to ask her how much property her company is going to require to get in on the action!   I’d like a piece of that pie!
