I was reading an article on yahoo news that a shipment of chopped peanuts from the plant that caused the salmonella outbreak were found with a bad smell when they were shipped to Canada.  The shipment was refused and returned to the US, where it was found by the FDA, and apparently confiscated.  Testing has shown that there were pieces of metal in the peanuts!

There is a lot of concern as to why there was not an investigation into the plant/company that shipped the peanuts at that time.  The article continues to state that if an investigation had been done at that time, the entire salmonella outbreak could have been avoided!  This is a serious charge; I wonder what will come of it!

One of the best places for a seaside vacation on the East Coast is in Florida, on the Gulf coast.  The weather is so nice, and the beaches are wonderful.  Destin Florida is located on the panhandle of Florida, about halfway between Panama City Beach and Pensacola Florida.  A Destin vacation is a surefire great vacation for relaxation on the beach. 

Teri and I are looking into going to Destin for a week next month, to get away from this cold weather.  When we go on vacations we like to rent condos or houses because we like to have the comforts of home while on vacation.  We do a lot of business travel where we stay in hotels, and that is fine for business travel, but to really enjoy ourselves and relax, a condo or house is the only way we want to travel.  We’ll be checking out the vacancies in the area through the vacationrentals.com website.

I heard on the news this morning that the US Postal Service might stop delivery service on Saturdays.  This is a cost-cutting measure.  I think it is a good idea.  I don’t really like having to bring the mail in on Saturday anyway!  But I DO hope that they will keep the Post Offices open for people that need to buy postage for packages, and for people that need to pick up their mail in their PO Boxes.  For some people Saturday is the only day of the week that they can do that kind of errand.

My friend Bill recently moved to Houston.  His company offered him a promotion and transfer to go there, and being single he had no reason to turn the promotion down.  The company paid for his moving expenses, and he got a great raise in pay!  I’m very happy for him; he has worked hard and deserves the job!  He sent me an email telling me that he has been looking for an online dating service and found Great Expectations Houston. 

Great Expectations is an online dating service that screens all the members with background checks and holds events in which the members can meet each other in a safe group environment.  They have locations in many cities around the country and have been providing their social service for over thirty years.  So Bill says he is joining the group and will let me know how things pan out!  I hope he has a great time!

The winter weather has been so bad the past couple of days that our offices have been closed.  That doesn’t mean I’m not working; I’m just “telecommuting.”  I really enjoy the luxury of being able to work at home when it is too difficult to drive to work.  I can get a lot of work done, and not have the hassle and expense of traveling to work.  When the roads get slippery, there are just so many accidents out there that it can turn what would normally be a 45 minute commute into a five hour commute!  So, I am really fortunate to have a job where I can stay home on days like this!
