I noticed that the new bowling alley in town has opened, and is advertising for leagues. Teri and I were considering going there and maybe joining a league. We really enjoy bowling, and we’d love to support a new local business. The big drawback is that we heard that they allow smoking throughout the entire alley all of the time. Well, I’m afraid that is a deal breaker; Teri is badly allergic to cigarette smoke! It makes it difficult sometimes to go places because so many places allow smoking inside. I heard there are some states, like Maine, that has made it illegal to smoke in restaurants and all public places. I sure wish they’d do that here!

We’ve fed the birds over the years, wanting to help hem to survive the harsh winter. We’ve gone to great lengths to protect our bird feeders from raiding squirrels. It has been fun watching the great lengths that squirrels will go to, trying to get to the bird seed. We have invested a lot of money in bird feeders because those rascals manage to break them to the point where the seed just pours straight out onto the ground. I don’t hate squirrels, and I don’t wish them ill will, I just wish they’d stop ruining the bird feeders!
Well, this weekend I was reading in the Sunday paper that there is a major shortage of acorns and hickory nuts. In many areas there are no nuts at all! This is highly unusual and the experts have no explanation for this strange phenomena, but the end result is that we are going to have millions of dead squirrels because of starvation. So I am thinking about buying a couple of special squirrel feeders, and filling them with sunflower seeds and corn, trying to help the little guys make it through the winter. I hope lots of other people will, too!

Everyone I know has been saying for at least since last January, that we in a recession. Today the government has finally agreed, making it official; we have been in a recession since last December! I don’t know what exactly is the reason it took them so long to admit it, I think that politics were involved there somewhere along the way, and now that the election is over, and there’s nothing at stake (nothing left to lose) the truth finally comes out. I sure hope that Mr. Obama can come up with a successful economic stimulus plan to turn the economy around! It’s going to be tough going, and I sure wish him luck!

Hard to shop for people
Filed under: Business and Office, Computers and/or Internet, Friends and/or Family, General Life, Money, shopping, technology;Comments OffAs much as Teri and I enjoy buying gifts for a lot of our friends and family, there are simply some people who are hard to buy for! When we find ourselves in that situation, we like to buy gift cards to give them. We’ve found a cool website called giftcardlab.com that allows us to order custom Visa gift cards! We think we’ll order a few with our photos on them, so when the gift recipient goes to spend the money, they’ll remember who gave it to them!
