I just read the coolest article on the web page msnbc.msn.com/id/27958792/?GT1=43001about how tonight is going to be a sky-spectacular sight involving the moon, Jupiter and Venus. They are all going to be in very close proximity tonight, right after sunset, and should be visible with the naked eye. Jupiter and Venus will be looking like very bright stars just to the right of the moon. Folks looking at the sky tonight will be treated to an eclipse of Venus; the moon will pass in front of it.
The article goes on to talk about how the moon is going to look, in its crescent stage, with the darkened part of the moon showing through a little bit, and it talks about how that has been called “the old moon in the young moon’s arms” and how it is now commonly referred to as “earthshine.” I thought that was really cool, to learn all of that. I will be trying to remember to look at the sky tonight!
