I was so very glad this morning when I woke up and found that Barack Obama is the projected winner of the presidential election and that the news has been met with celebrations (and no violence.) I was afraid that no matter what the outcome of the election, there would be some crazy folks out there that would use the results as an excuse for some kind of violence.
I was interested to watch in the news the demographic breakdown of who voted which way, and noticed that the majority of the minority races voted for Obama, but the majority of the white race voted for McCain. That makes me think that the majority of the white race is still very much racist, which disturbs me deeply. I am basing that statement on my own experience of hearing white people telling me to my face that they did not want to vote for anyone that is non-white to be the President. This lingering racism is very disturbing to me.
