One of the things that Teri and I like to do is hunt for bargains.  We consider it a challenge and an accomplishment when we can find a great deal on a product that we really want.  We don’t mind spending some extra time searching for the best price, because we really enjoy the feeling we get when we’ve saved a lot of money on a great product!  Some of our friends think we’re a little bit nuts about this, saying that it isn’t worth their time to find the bargain, but since we think it’s fun, we just ignore them.  One of the things we enjoy doing in our spare time is going to discount outlets that sell closeouts and “scratch and dents” just to bargain hunt!  Sometimes we’ll spend an entire day, or even a whole weekend, bargain hunting.  We’ll go to mile-long community lawn sales, antique stores, second hand stores, just about anywhere!

We have an eclectic taste in home furnishings – some people call that “early marriage” or “lawn sale” decorating, but we only buy things that we absolutely love, and we do a pretty good job of making it all work together.  Teri has a pretty good eye at interior decorating.

Teri has found a new website called Keepcash that offers a lot of e-coupon savings opportunities to a large variety of online stores.  She was telling me that it is updated everyday with daily specials, and that she is going to be looking at it every day to see if she can find a few of the furnishings and appliances that we’ve been talking about upgrading over the next few months.  One of our favorite online stores is Linens ‘N Things, and this website has links and coupons to them, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on that one. 

My brother sent me an email, telling me that he has come down with a bad case of the shingles again. Poor guy has had shingles a few times in the past couple of years – they are very painful. I’m really glad I’ve never had them! I was surprised to learn that his doctor gave him a prescription for Valtrex to treat shingles! I didn’t know that Valtrex could be used for that! I went to the Valtrex website and learned that it can be used to treat shingles and fever blisters! You learn something new every day!

Being in the real estate business, one of the things that I sometimes have to do is help a client stage their home. There is a good blog post about using clocks to stage a home that I found quite informative and it got me interested in buying a clock for my den.

So I’ve been browsing the Internet, looking around for the perfect clock.  I came across a picture of a really cool clock that I want to buy for my den.

This particular clock that I found that I want for my den is a grandfather clock, but I never would have thought of it as a grandfather clock!  It is quite different than any clock I ever would have imagined to be considered a grandfather clock!  I’ve always thought of grandfather clocks as imposing massive wooden structures that take up a large space in a stuffy formal living room, but this one that I found that I like is skinny and sleek and reminds me more of a old fashioned lamp post, or maybe of a clock that you might see in an old train station in an old city.  It’s really cool!

Our dishwasher died last night again for the fifth time. The last time it broke the repairman told us that if it broke down again it would be better for us to buy a new one than to repair this one. So today I’ll be sending Teri out shopping for a new dishwasher. She’s the one who has particular likes and dislikes about the kitchen appliances; I don’t care very much one way or the other as long as it works! I should just tell her that she is the new dishwasher (by hand) and her brother can dry, but I’m not that mean.
